Getting Organized for The Next Show Year:
The 16-year-old Daughter's Perspective

(for the mom's perspective, click here)

So I’ve decided that some times getting ready for a
show can be more stressful and time consuming than
the show itself. This past week has been nothing but
talking to my teachers and getting all my horse stuff in-
order. I first usually begin getting ready by telling my
teachers about the horse and how many/ which days I’
m missing class. Then this usually causes me to take
quizzes and some tests ahead of time. It also makes
projects/research due before I leave, which always
really sucks! But I still get to rub it in my friends faces
that I get to miss so much school.

Getting the horse stuff all ready is especially crazy. I
had the whole front of my barn floor filled with stuff,
trying to get my tack trunk and everything organized. I
had to decide things like which coolers to bring, what
needed to be washed, which pads to bring and all the
grooming supplies. Next was getting the horses ready,
which means I was extra hairy at the end. I have to clip
their ears, noises/throats, legs, bridle paths and pull
manes. I think thought that all together that was the
easiest and fastest thing I did together ready for the
show. The last but not least thing I have to do is pack
myself. I have to remember the tall boots, the tall boots
socks, jeans, sports bra’s, all the stuff like that!

And no matter how much I double check and go over in
my head of what I have, I always forget something. This
trip I forgot all my show clothes! Yup. I couldn't believe
it. But thankfully the best mom in the world brought it
down with her! Last year, I forgot my saddle!! It was
crazy how we had to get it down last year, it involved
lots of extra driving. It wasn’t good.

Finally we’re at the show and ready to un-pack, which is
always an extra ordeal.

Every year we take to regroup, organize and prepare our selves and the horses for a new show year. We tend to show someplace
during the winter circuit so our timeline will depend on where we will be showing. Here is my list including a to do list I seem to follow
each year. There is also attached a perspective from my daughter and how she gets herself organized.
